ARA IP Month 2023
ARA IP Month focuses on the significance of a balanced intellectual property system in recognizing and rewarding inventors and creators for their work, ensuring societal benefits from their creativity and ingenuity. The initiative emphasises the importance of understanding intellectual property for commercialising artistic works, addressing historical issues of mistreatment and manipulation by industry players. By empowering artists with knowledge of their works and intellectual property, ARA IP Month aims to facilitate effective conversations, giving rise to positive changes in the industry.
This comprehensive annual initiative consists of four weeks of free educational webinar masterclasses, covering topics such as copyright, intellectual property protection, commercialization, infringement, and enforcement. The masterclasses draw expertise from industry leaders and experts across Africa, providing the most relevant and up-to-date information to creators in various domains, including literary, musical, sound recordings, artistic, and audio-visual works. Participants who complete the full program receive an official training certificate from the Kenya Copyright Board, symbolising their commitment to protecting their creative assets and harnessing the full potential of their intellectual property.
